Title Information and communication technologies in science education Type Conference Article
Year 2011 Publication Abbreviated Journal
Volume Issue Pages 1076-1080
Keywords ICT in education; Multinational project; Science education
Abstract The advancements in information and communication technologies (ICT) provide significant opportunities to improve teaching and learning. The use of ICT in science education offers even more advantages due to the attractive premises to simulate and interactively explore and test experiments which would be too expensive or too dangerous in real settings (for example in nuclear physics). The aim of this paper is to contribute to the research field of technology based learning by presenting several findings obtained during a multinational educational project (Comenius) regarding the use of computer in classroom, in science education, in Romania, Spain, Poland, Greece and Finland. © 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Abstract Nowadays, the videoconference represents a spread technology in the distant training processes but experienced also in the traditional ones, mostly in the frame of national and international projects. Taking into consideration the last type of actions, the paper emphasizes on the main aspects carried out for organizing a Meeting with European Science teachers, under the umbrella of a videoconference, as a distinct dissemination activity, planned in the frame of the three years Socrates-Comenius 2.1 European project “VccSSe – Virtual Community Collaborating Space for Science Education” – code 128989-CP-1-2006-1-RO-COMENIUS-C21. The project partnership consists of 9 institutions, coordinated by Valahia University Targoviste, Romania. The paper offers an image on the videoconference organization and feedback collected from the participants. There were taken into consideration and discussed aspects like: technical and organizational criteria, content of the videoconference, communication and feedback criteria, strong and weak points met during the videoconference session. © 2010 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Title Teachers' computer supported constructions within a European virtual community collaborative space for sciences education: An experience achieved in a multinational European project Type Conference Article
Year 2010 Publication Abbreviated Journal
Volume Issue Pages 349-356
Keywords Blended learning; Collaborative spaces; Computer supported education; Essential considerations; European Countries; European project; Experiments; Finland; Information and Communication Technologies; Lesson plans; Online training; Personnel training; Planning; Romania; Science education; Teacher training; Teaching; Teaching and learning; Virtual community; Virtual experiments; Virtual reality
Abstract This paper presents some essential considerations referred to the constructions performed by European teachers in terms of virtual experiments and lesson plans within the framework of a Virtual community collaborative Space for Sciences education. This framework was set up in the context of the Socrates Comenius 2.1 European project: “VccSSe – Virtual Community Collaborating Space for Science Education”. In this project, teachers from five European countries (Romania, Poland, Finland, Spain and Greece) participated in blended learning courses aiming their training for the use of Information and Communication Technologies in real teaching and learning practices. Within this framework, on-line training materials and virtual experiments were created and developed. After the end of the designed courses, teachers were asked to form their own virtual experiments and lesson plans and then to implement their products in the classrooms. The analysis of the data shows that teachers who participated in the VccSSe Project encouraged by the aforementioned blended course, expressed a favourable feedback related to the implementation of their own virtual experiments in the teaching activities.
