Year 2013 Publication 2nd World Conference On Educational Technology Research Abbreviated Journal
Volume 83 Issue Pages 535-541

Abstract In the last period, there are several studies that emphasized a drop of young students' interest for the Science lessons. In order to alleviate this tendency, Valahia University Targoviste started together with other 21 institutions from 20 countries to implement the FP7 European Research Project “PROFILES – Professional Reflection-Oriented Focus on Inquiry-based Learning and Education through Science”. The aim of the project is to promote Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE) through “raising the self-efficacy of science teachers to take ownership of more effective ways of teaching students, supported by stakeholders” (PROFILES Consortium, 2010). In order to achieve the aim of the project, the partners agreed to carry out a curricular Delphi Study with the view to engage various stakeholders in reflecting on contents and aims of Science Education as well as in outlining aspects and approaches of modern Science Education. In this paper, the framework, the procedure and the interim results of the 1st round of Curricular Delphi Study on Science Education, carried out by Romanian partner, are presented. Abstract Although the access to the computers and the Internet at home is quite widespread in the European countries, the use of them at home for school related learning activities comparing to the use for entertainment is much lower with about 30 percentages (Eurydice, 2011). The paper aims to present an analysis of the feedback collected from a group of teachers, from 9 counties, after they have been trained, within a POSDRU project, to integrate in education different multimedia applications. Among others, the results shows that although most of the teachers have a computer in their classroom or constant access to a computer room (78%) with Internet access (66%), only a low number of the teachers have used in the past digital images, videos and web conferences in the teaching-learning-evaluation process. Title Promoting the effective use of ict in Romanian primary and secondary education – steps made in the frame of edutic project Type

Abstract The great potential of introducing ICT in nowadays education is well-known. Teachers become more familiar on using ICT in schools and as their experience grows, they are able to develop effective ICT-based teaching and learning tools. Many teacher training programs or continuing professional development opportunities were proposed with the declared aim to support the integration of ICT in the actual education, but also to develop on-line training / e-learning in schools. This paper illustrates the main aspects developed in a Romanian teacher training program, dedicated to all the educational levels, organized in the frame of the project called “EDUTIC – A network for teachers professional development with the view to increase the quality of ICT implementation in the Romanian primary and secondary education” (code POSDRU/19/1.3/G/37002). The overall objective of the project was to improve teachers' skills and attitudes by developing and delivering a training program which aimed to integrate ICT tools in the educational process. The training program proposed one compulsory module and two optional ones – the teachers having the possibility to select one of those last two. After the ending of the training phase, the teachers expressed their feed-back in related on-line questionnaires. In this sense, the paper presents some of their main opinions. Abstract Traditional learning process involves a series of costs related to the resources used and assumes certain restrictions to the lessons because of the way they are planed and deployed. Technological development has allowed the removal of certain restrictions, but it has also led to additional consequences, inexistent in traditional learning. This paper presents an analysis, in terms of costs and resources, which is needed in the implementation and operation of the systems that provide environments for collaborative learning, by highlighting some designed elements that can lead to reduced costs. Abstract Nowadays, the presence of ICT in education became a common fact and its importance cannot be overlooked. Starting from connecting people and resources, ICT was implemented in teaching and learning on a large scale, offering a real added-value to the educational process. One of the most common implementations in education is strongly referred to the use of World Wide Web. In many applications, it is explored through its navigating functions or exploited as an information resource, but it has an important potential to be used even as a tutor. Specific web-tools, gathered under an environment called e-Space, – were created during the three years Socrates-Comenius 2.1 European project “VccSSe – Virtual Community Collaborating Space for Science Education”, which supported the pedagogical use of virtual experiments, as a new technology in the common Science teaching and learning process. The paper presents the instruments included in the e-Space and emphasizes also on its particular aspects, organized and developed as a web resource, useful for Science teachers. Abstract The advancements in information and communication technologies (ICT) provide significant opportunities to improve teaching and learning. The use of ICT in science education offers even more advantages due to the attractive premises to simulate and interactively explore and test experiments which would be too expensive or too dangerous in real settings (for example in nuclear physics). The aim of this paper is to contribute to the research field of technology based learning by presenting several findings obtained during a multinational educational project (Comenius) regarding the use of computer in classroom, in science education, in Romania, Spain, Poland, Greece and Finland. Volume 3 Issue Pages
Keywords
Abstract Since Internet became in the last years the biggest source of information, the book concept has been dramatically redefined, especially in terms of separating of its content and the related support. Practically, when using the electronic media, a book could take a different look – the electronic book (e-book). Due to their widely spread in the last period, the e-books are one of the most effective ways to support distance learning (e-learning), as they can be read by thousands of readers. Due to the fact that the teachers have limited time for participating to the face-to-face training programmes, the e-books became an important tool for promoting different training courses organized in the frame of various projects. It was also the case of the three years Socrates-Comenius 2.1 European project “FISTE – A Future Way for In-Service Teacher Training across Europe” – code 118766-CP-1-2004-1-RO-COMENIUS-C21, when the partnership organized the on-line courses entitled “Integrated ICT in Traditional Training” and “ECSUT: Educational Challenges & Solutions in Using ICT” [1]. The best practices and experiences of the teachers who achieved the on-line courses were collected and help the partnership to design a web-guideline entitled “Best Practices Guideline for Educational Use of ICT Tools” as a final output of the project. The content of the European course and the web-guideline have been produced as an e-book format by using Desktop Author software application. In this sense, the paper aims to present the most important features proposed by Desktop Author software during the design process of the mentioned e-books, together with the main facets presented by the related e-volumes. Abstract The paper emphasizes on the educational features of the video-clips that promote virtual experiments, having in view the representation of real experiments as video demonstrations (for Chemistry and Physics lessons) and the possibility for investigating students' mathematical thinking (for Mathematics lessons). The presented experiences are illustrated as part of the results of the Socrates-Comenius 2.1 European project 128989-CP-1-2006-1-RO-COMENIUS-C21: “VccSSe – Virtual Community Collaborating Space for Science Education”, coordinated by Valahia University Targoviste, focusing on a web Exhibition which consists of 50 video-clips that present important pedagogical aspects related to the use of virtual experiments in education. The produced video-clips target to the opening of new themes and reflection topics on how to increase the educational valences of virtual experiments and how to involve the video-clips, as multimedia products, in the teaching practice. This represents a feasible option for increasing the quality of the actual teaching methods for Sciences and Engineering Education.

Abstract The paper presents some aspects emphasized in the “Best Practices Guideline for Educational Use of ICT Tools”, realized as a main product of the Comenius 2.1 European project “FISTE – A Future Way for In-Service Teacher Training Across Europe”. The main aim of this guideline was to collect all the experiences gathered during the project, regarding the ICT tools explored and inserted in the on-line course “Integrating ICT in Traditional Training”, organized in the frame of the project. The best practices guideline was designed to reflect on the experiences of individual project partners in delivering of the mentioned on-line course. It extracted some conclusions regarding the effective educational use of ICT tools in traditional educational settings, from both pedagogical and technical point of view, and is edited as a web product accessible to European educators.
